With training in Chinese medicine, Western medicine and public health, and especially a solid understanding of the TCM theory of the Five Movements and Six Qi, Dr. Yu predicted in November 2019 that Yibing disease could break out in the spring of 2020 – an early warning. After conducting in-depth and systematic research on the etiology, pathogenesis, and development of the epidemic, he proposed the “five lines of defense” principle for preventing and controlling the epidemic. He advocated that traditional Chinese medicine should be involved in the prevention and control of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic by strengthening the body, promoting health, reducing morbidity, slowing disease progression, and promoting clinical recovery.
